A Man's Journey + Why It Is Different Than Ours

Hola Yogini's!

As you are reading this I have just arrived back in Nicaragua to co-lead our 2nd Annual Yoga. Earth. Surf. Retreat.
I am so excited to host 18 merbabes and 1 (very brave + lucky!) merman and spend the next eight days relishing in lot's of yoga, sun, ocean, rest, reading, a technology sabbatical, and of course play!

The man who is joining us is a long time friend.
He was the very person I met when I moved to my college dorm wayyy back in 2001.
Our paths have Kris Krossed (some of you will get that ;) ) over the years but we have always stayed in touch in some way.

I am so very proud of him for having the courage to say Yes to this retreat for a couple of reasons.
First because he has never done yoga!
Second because he has never been this far away from home or his daughter since she was born.
Lastly because he listened to his intuition and heart (hut) and said yes knowing it was exactly what he needed, trusting himself.

You see, my friend, has been going through a Hero's Journey.

You might have heard of this before.
Joseph Campbell wrote on it many, many years ago and it became the basis for which we began to view the up's and down's of Life, or the continual ebb and flow we surf sometimes weekly, monthly, yearly, or over a lifetime.
Men and women alike.

He has spent the entire time since our graduation developing and running his own business which is repairing, operating, and installing wind turbines throughout Canada, which as you might guess, has been tough since we are only now just realizing it is the future of sustainable power.
He used to travel a lot, then had a daughter and it changed his life, and therefore, his career since he wanted to stay grounded, rooted, and present for her.
He has also been in a long standing custody battle with his ex over their daughter.
With all the change and turbulent energy surrounding him, he knew he just had to step away. Refocus, recharge, relax, and reconnect with himself and this trip presented itself right at the exact time he had made this inner commitment.

I tell you this because it is important to know that men are not immune to, as most of us understand by now, the fluctuations, emotions, hardships, and cycles of life.
They too are effected and affected.

The thing is though it is a Hero's Journey and although his experiences might resonate, sound familiar, or maybe you are even cycling through one of them presently, the way he approaches them and what he has to feel and go through to emerge on the other side is different than for women.

Women take a Heroine's Journey.

Thankfully, Maureen Murdock, again many years ago, noticed that although we might be living the same experience as our Brothers, our process is different.

Yet so many of us stay stuck in the Hero's Journey, not knowing, unaware, and as a result feel crazy, depressed, lost, hopeless, or give up.

I dive deep in these teachings in the JOY Circle and Sacred Movement programs, soon the Journey of the Yogini training's, so that each women understands that it a process of excavation, unfolding, healing, empowering, and ultimately transformation.

Our process is not better or worse, harder or easier, it's just different.

It begins when we feel a call from our inner world, a call to action.
Maybe it's to change jobs, leave partners, take a training, create something, manifest a dream.
Once the decision is made we then embark on our Heroine's Journey.

We will confront ogres and dragons, demons and the underworld, but eventually emerge back in to the Light with all our gifts and truthfully, authentically our Selves.
(Maleficent + Frozen are fabulous modern versions of the Heroine's Journey and highly suggest them!)

This month I invite you take a Journey with me, one that will empower, heal, and transform your relationship to Self.

Over the past nine years I have dedicated myself to my own excavation process, spiritual practice, and unfolding of deeper teachings that are applicable for all women in some way.

The 21 Day Yogini Yoga Journey is a complimentary offering that will support you in becoming the Heroine of your life.

Each day you will receive one short email with simple steps to taking back the Love for your practice, keep you inspired to get on your mat, and connect to deeper parts of your fabulous feminine Self.

As we embark on a new season + new cycle this is the most potent time to begin again.

This will be a mini Heroine's Journey, as some days will be easier than others, you will meet some of those demon's (they might sound like "just skip today" or "I don't have time for this"), you will learn to surf the waves of feminine practices, dive in to your inner world, and emerge lighter, refreshed, and awakened.

It is totally complimentary, has tons of valuable info, free daily practices, and maybe an insight (or two) in to my book baby!

If you feel called to join us the Journey starts on and together, hundreds of women, will begin to empower, heal, and transform their lives.

Blessings + Love,

Megan
