Pitta Pacifying Practice

"The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire."

 Fire Keeper Megan  ,

We have officially arrived in the heat, humidity, and fierce energy of the summer months.

This past week I have been trying to remind people in my public classes that summer is a time for vacation, rest, and regeneration.

So often we fill our days, evenings, and weekends full.
And by the end of August when our routines are back in full swing we mumble how we need a vacation from our vacation.

Been there?

When the yogic sages of the past, who revered their bodies as temples, were looking for ways to keep their bodies and minds healthy in order to advanced spiritually, Ayurveda is the teachings they shared from a few hundreds years of study.

The sister science of Yoga, Ayurveda, is based on Dosha's.

The dosha's are energies that make up individuals and perform certain physiological functions of the body.
As each individual is different our degree to which dosha is dominant depends a lot on our lifestyle, eating habits, careers, social activities and so on.

Many (I dare say most) Westerners are Pitta dosha dominant.

Pitta dosha is the energy that controls and governs our metabolic processes, is considered a fire like energy, and give us our vitality.

Pitta peep's can be dominant, controlling, passionate, romantic, aggressive, competitive, impatient, enjoy challenges, thrive in stress, pushy, and demanding.

When in balance we are wise, determined, content, clear, and able to relax.

When out of balance we are easily irritated, agitated, aggravated, angry, and unable to slow down or stop.

Those of us that are pitta dominant the summer only fuels our fire tendencies, which then makes us easily tired.

So after offering a Pitta Pacifying sadhana at our Shanti Retreat a couple weeks ago, I thought it would be a good one to share with every one here since it had been a while since I gave you a good yoga flow.

I went to my deck and filmed during sunset.
Only 25 minutes, this practice will support you in balancing the inner fire and pacify the pitta energies in you.

If Pitta energies resonate with you, I also offer these tips for the Summer months:
~ practice before sunrise or during sunset
~ give your self one day a week with nothing planned
~ eat cooling foods and light drinks
~ use a cooling oil, like coconut, for your daily abhyanga
~ do the pranayam in my video at noon every day for 1-2 minutes min.

Stay Cool Lovers,

Megan
