Fall Detox Time!

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of leading 20 women through a detoxifying Yoga practice before hitting the beautiful, outdoor Scandanavian baths at Le Nordik for our Yogini Yoga: Urban ME~Treat.
It was such a gift and pleasure to witness more and more women taking the time to nourish their bodies, minds, and spirits by gathering, practicing, and relaxing.
Fall is the second most beneficial time to detox, after Spring.
Now that we are fully embracing the change of season with the change of leaves, temperatures, and amount of sun we see, it's a great time to eliminate foods, thoughts, and anything that might be holding us back from the previous season of summer and move fully and vibrantly in to the next.
One of the ways we can do this is through our practice and the foods that we eat, but also by taking a one day at hOMe detox 'me~treat' for yourself (especially if you weren't able to join us at Le Nordik!).
Find one day this month where you can shut down and off. Get off your computer, turn off your cell phone, and completely disconnect from the world. Retreat in to your sacred space or bedroom, whatever is available to you and where you can be alone as much as possible.
Use this one day to be quiet, still, sleep, pray, meditate, practice, and most importantly just be with yourself.
Start your at hOMe 'me~treat' with a glass of warm water and lemon.
Then get on your mat and do my 'Fall Detox Sadhana' podcast.
(under complimentary practices on my website)
Afterwards, take a long, hot epsome salts bath and read a good book.
Then rest. Be still. Or nap.
Eat lightly and only nourishing, easily digested foods like kitchari for lunch.
Then take a walk outside and observe the colors of the leaves, the crisp air on your skin, and take in your surroundings.
Then rest. Be still. Or sleep.... yes, again!
After another few glasses of warm water and lemon (be sure to drink a lot!) eat something light and replenishing for dinner and then do a short, gentle Yoga practice before you head to bed.
(try the Daily Renewal practice under complimentary practices on my website)
When in bed write in your journal free flow for 10-20 minutes.
Free flow means your hand doesn't leave the page, you don't edit your thoughts, and you keep writing even if you think you can't think of anything else to write.
Don't stop.
Most importantly allow, throughout the day, any and all feelings that arise to move through you. Be mad, sad, happy, giddy, angry, excited... whatever comes up allow to come out!
Detoxing our bodies is great, but your health is also deeply dependent on what you think and feel.
Take the time during this day to contemplate where else you might need to 'detox' your life ~ home, job, clothes, friends....
The stillness and quiet of your hOMe 'me~treat' will provide you with the opportunity to do this, as well as perhaps creative ways to support you during the 'letting go' stage and transition.
Remember that our hidden power is our ability to experience vulnerability and be vulnerable. During times of detoxification this is exactly how might feel and what we might experience, but living fully, passionately, and spaciously requires us to do, feel, and experience everything!
